Adolescents, 10 to 18 years of age, with acute psychiatric or chemical dependency problems can receive full inpatient care and treatment at Lincoln Trail Behavioral Health System. During treatment, patients follow a carefully planned program of daily activities that include family, individual and group therapies. These activities are designed to address each patient's specific problems, as well as to nurture physical, social, emotional and mental well-being.

*The client has a diagnosis of "dependency" as listed in the DSM IV Manual.
*The client has attempted outpatient counseling at a lesser level of care. Documentation of outpatient treatment and recommendations must be obtained. A release of information must be signed by the parent/guardian so these records may be sent to the EPSDT program.
*The client must have a letter from the Department of Juvenile Justice, the court system, or the referral source stating that it is their opinion that extended inpatient treatment is necessary.
*The client must be voluntary and recognize a loss of control over their life as a direct result of their chemical use.
*The client must have a current and active Kentucky Medicaid card. Medicaid resources in the state of Kentucky do not pay for chemical dependency issues. The funding for The Evergreens Program comes from the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment Program (EPSDT).

Because education is an integral part of each young person's treatment, adolescents study at our own Heartland Academy. Staffed by Hardin County Schools teachers (Kentucky Certified), the school program supports the individualized requirements of each student and provides a smooth transition back to the home school. Students receive six hours of academic instruction and study daily, including individualized support. In most instances, students return to community schools with full credit for work done during hospitalization.

The Program Director oversees the treatment program outlined for each adolescent. Physicians admitting patients to the program work closely with the Program Director in treating each of their patients. Individual management of each patient is provided by the admitting physician, and each adolescent has an individualized treatment plan designed to meet specific treatment goals. A multidisciplinary treatment team consisting of individuals with professional and practical knowledge of adolescent psychiatric and/or chemical dependency issues, meets weekly to guide the individual adolescent's treatment process .
