The Willows Program is an Inpatient Extended Care Program for preadolescent and adolescent females exhibiting sexually reactive behaviors. This unit provides a highly structured therapeutic environment focusing on the needs of this client population.

Specifically, the purpose is to:

*Reduce thoughts and behaviors which pose a     danger to the adolescent or others.
*Reduce severe symptoms associated with depression, substance abuse/dependence, psychosis, conduct and other disorders.
*Improve functioning in home, school and the community.
*Improve victim empathy and define their abusive behaviors.
*Learn offense cycle and means to interrupt.
*Improve the patient’s acceptance of responsibility.

The Willows Program allows the patient to survive crisis, stabilize and remain in a therapeutic community setting while improving the patient’s psychological and physical safety. This therapeutic setting fosters each patient to learn and experience new behaviors that promote change. Ultimately, the program fosters continued development: physical growth and health, rational thought and knowledge, appropriate expression of emotion, self-control and acceptable behavior, and the development of positive relationships with others.

Because Education is an integral part of each young person’s treatment, adolescents study at our own Heartland Academy. Staffed by Hardin County Schools teachers (Kentucky Certified), the school program supports the individualized requirements of each student and provides a smooth transition back to the home school. Students receive six hours of academic instruction and study daily, including individualized support. In most instances, students return to community schools with full credit for work done during hospitalization.
